Worksheet 2: Neighborhood Walk
Regina Winery

DO THIS: Stop at the numbered spots marked on the aerial photo. Answer these questions.
Important: Adult supervision is required. Have your parent or teacher take you to the neighborhood study area. Do not go onto private property.

QUESTIONS:

First Spot: Base Line Entrance
Look west down Base Line Road. Are the winery buildings significant to street scene? How is the north side different from the south side? Take a picture of the south side of the street, looking west. Note how close buildings are to the street - what opportunities does this present? Also, take picture of each mural painted on side of building. What do murals tell you about history of site and immediate area?

Second Spot: Mini Park
Look east at small park and new vineyard. What does the space feel like compared to what is around it? What is the most interesting feature of the park? How does the park help create a setting for the winery? Look to the southeast. What different land uses do you see? Do these uses belong next to winery? Are they worth preserving? Is it a quiet place? What do you think could develop there? Turn around and look west at wine tasting room. What other land uses could go together with wine tasting room?

Third Spot: Winery & Basin
Stand at south side of main winery buildings and look north. What activities are in the buildings? Look south beyond basin (large hole in the ground). How far can you see? Is this view worth saving? The area around basin is the largest portion of site that has no buildings - what land uses can you picture there? What is the land use south of winery site?

Fourth Spot: Grape Crusher
Stand at the northwest corner of site. What do you hear? Is it more quiet than the Third Spot? Is Base Line a busy street with a lot of traffic? What is the most interesting building? The tower closet to Base Line Road is a landmark visible from the other side of town - should it be saved, and if so, for what use? Look to the west and note land use. What is land on opposite side of Base Line Road being used for?
