Awards

The American Planning Association has named the Kids Neighborhood Workshop winner of their 1999 Public Education Award. The workshop was honored at APA's National Planning Conference in Seattle, Washington, and was featured in the April 1999 issue of Planning magazine.

"Many communities are looking at technology as a way to provide information to their community," said Dennis Gordon, chair of APA's awards jury. "Rancho Cucamonga impressed jurors because it so effectively uses technology to stimulate young creative minds." By helping children identify community goals and visions, "this type of program has the potential to be far more than just another interesting gadget. It is an important resource in the rapidly expanding planning tool box."

The APA National Awards for Planning are part of a proud tradition established nearly 40 years ago. Past and future winners offer tangible proof of the planning profession's power to positively shape our world, and tangible evidence of the impact others can have when they become partners in the planning process.
